This time of year is prime season for overwhelm. The start of the new year brings with it the Christmas hangover of lack of routine, change in diet and exercise, lack of downtime, too much or too little people-ing, and the never-ending germ cycle (or maybe that’s just my household?!).

On top of that, factor in the onslaught of media posts about new year resolutions and setting audacious goals for the year. And don’t forget the back-to-work dread…

I’m starting the year needing a rest. It’s the perfect antidote to overwhelm.

Rest isn’t just about taking a nap or a Netflix binge. Rest spans a number of key areas and can make a huge difference to your level of tolerance to all of the day to day crud that we need to deal with.

This is a great article that I have shared with many of my clients. It covers the seven areas of rest that everyone needs (physical, mental, sensory, creative, emotional, social and spiritual). I find it a great reminder of where to focus my attention to get myself back into feeling motivated, inspired and productive again.

I’ll be prioritising sensory rest (now the kids are back at school) and creative rest. What about you?
