A client came to see me recently because she was struggling to make decisions for her child’s future. It felt like she had an overwhelming amount of options and unknowns and didn’t know how to begin to make a decision.

Although on the face of it, lots of options can look like a good thing, it doesn’t make our lives any easier. Options also create pressure, especially the pressure to make the RIGHT choice.

So how do you make the right decision?

  • Some people get that ‘gut feeling’ about a decision and intuitively know what feels right.
  • Some people rely on gathering data and analysing pros and cons to weigh up the options.
  • Some people ask others for their advice and make decisions based on how persuasive their opinions are.
  • Some people will flip a coin, or just choose.

In the end, it doesn’t matter how you make the right decision for you, the important thing is that you make it.

There will never be a perfect decision, there is no such thing and there will always be a part of you that wonders what will happen if you made a different choice.

So maybe just make a decision in the best way that you know how, and trust that it will either work out ok, or that you’ll figure out a way to make it into something else that can be ok.

So back to my client…
