Working with Young People

Individual and group sessions for young people aged 5 to 17

Untangling Your Young Person

  • Are they struggling with the pressure of school work, academic expectations, or exam pressures?
  • Do they feel unable to make plans for the future, and overwhelmed by the options available to them?
  • Are they feeling the pressure to conform to being a certain way in order to navigate friendships or avoid being bullied?
  • Are they feeling lost in who they are, what they stand for and where they fit in, and lacking confidence and self-esteem?
  • Have they fallen into unhealthy habits that are affecting their sleep, eating, behaviours, routines, mental health or physical health?
  • Are they navigating a period of change in their lives; such as adjusting to a new education setting, moving home, a change in family dynamics, or experiencing grief and loss?

There are SO many areas we can work on…

The most common are:
  • School work and exam stress
  • Unhelpful habits
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Friendships and relationships
  • Identity and belonging
  • Confidence and self-esteem
  • Low mood and depression
  • Fears and phobias
  • Goals and future planning
  • and so much more!

I can help your young person to…

  • explore, understand and rewire any unhelpful thoughts or behaviours
  • create a toolbox of helpful activities to support their wellbeing and day to day life
  • learn how to relax and use their imagination to help them feel the way they want to
  • understand themselves better, knowing what is important to them and how they can show up everyday feeling confident in their own skin
  • build up their inner cheerleader to support themselves and help guide their choices
  • look at their goals and put together a flexible plan to help them get there in a way that works for them
  • discover ways to work smarter, study calmer and perform at their optimal levels
  • feel calmer, increase their confidence and self-belief, and feel more resilient in periods of change

Individual Sessions

Sessions are tailored for your young person’s age, interests and attention span. I’ll help them to let go of unhelpful beliefs and habits, explore new ideas and possibilities, and achieve their goals. All in a way that works for them and their brain.

Using a blend of therapeutic and coaching techniques, I create a safe, nurturing space to help your young person to calm their nervous system, build resilience and adaptability, and make the changes they want in their life. I help them to create a bespoke toolbox of techniques, strategies, healthy habits and beliefs to support them now and in the future.

A parent or carer must be present for the initial consultation and may stay throughout any follow up session, depending on the young person’s age and preference. I hold an enchanced DBS certificate and am registered with the CNHC.

Group Sessions

Group sessions are available as one-offs or a series of sessions. These are perfect to run in schools as workshops or a regular club.

Sessions can be focused on different topics, depending on the needs and age range in the group. Common topics are; mindset, mindfulness, confidence, exam stress, worries and fears, and healthy habits.

I am a Hypno4Children™ Practitioner, and have been trained in their specialist methods, including their MindHack system and StudyCalm package.

The MindHack system helps to reduce anxieties and low mood, and build resilience and wellbeing in children and teens. This gives your young person a wellbeing toolbox of techniques, strategies, healthy habits and beliefs about their own resourcefulness that will enhance their wellbeing.

StudyCalm helps young people with learning, revising and exams. They build a toolbox of ways to help them work smarter, study calmer and perform at their optimal levels. They learn how to feel calmer, increase their self-belief, filter out unhelpful thoughts, become aware of where they’re getting stuck, and feel more resilient and positive about their future.

Kind Words

“Thank you sooooo much for the session on Wednesday. We were astonished when O used the technique again by himself last night, and it has been so helpful.”

Sophie

“I couldn’t thank you enough for your support and helping me move some issues forward and learn new ways to cope.”

Will

“Kate is incredible. I cannot say enough good things about her. She has worked with my daughter for about a year and I have seen such a transformation from an anxious, unhappy child to a child that feels relaxed, confident in who she is and able to deal with situations calmly. Kate has given my daughter many tools to use and the personal meditations have been brilliant. I am so grateful that we found Kate and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her to anyone. She has literally changed our lives for the better.”

Frequently Asked Questions

How does hypnotherapy work with young people?

Children already spend a lot of their life in a hypnotic state.

The depth of their natural hypnosis depends on their age; with children under the age of 7 predominately in a theta brainwave state (equivelent to sleep or deep meditation), and from 7 to 12 years in alpha (light meditation or relaxation), and then over 12 moving into beta (focused consciousness).

This means that they are highly suggestable and respond well to hypnotherapy.

They don’t need to be guided into hypnosis, like an adult would, they can simply close their eyes and use their imagination.

I combine hypnotherapy with other evidence-based modalities like neuro linguistic programming (NLP), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), tapping, positive psychology and mindset coaching to quickly and effectively make long-lasting changes.

What happens during a young person's session?

The structure of the session will depend on the age and needs of the young person.

Younger children tend to be already experiencing the world at a subconscious level. This means that we will do a lot of the work through the use of stories and exploring their imagination.

Older children and teenagers are working more from their conscious mind, and have already started to form their beliefs and identity based on their childhood experiences. This means that the sessions are often more structured and can look more like an adult’s session.

The tools and techniques used with young people include modalities such as hypnotherapy, neuro linguistic programming (NLP), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), positive psychology and mindset coaching.

Do I attend the session with my young person?

Before we have the first session, we can talk on the phone (or Zoom) to discuss whatever your young person would like help with, and you can ask any questions you may have.

Generally if the young person is under the age of 16, then a parent or guardian should attend with them, but please contact me if you have any concerns about this.

If you are staying for the session, my focus will be directed to your young person but you are very welcome to join in with the exercises and visualisations though!
