What is hypnotherapy, and how does it work?

Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic technique that utilises guided relaxation and focused attention to help you explore the root causes of your thoughts, feelings and behaviours, and to create positive, long-lasting changes in your life.

In hypnotherapy, we use hypnosis to help your body feel relaxed while your mind is focused and more open to suggestions. It is a similar state to the feeling of driving a familiar route ‘on autopilot’, or zoning out when watching a film, or scrolling on your phone. We all go in and out of hypnosis by ourselves every single day.

During hypnosis you are still aware of what is happening around you but your attention will be focused on one topic, so you will remain in control and not be made to do anything or say anything you do not want to do. It is a collaborative process where I use questions and suggestions to help you quickly uncover the answers and solutions you need from within you. It might be that you release an old belief or fear, see things from a different perspective, or rewire habituated patterns of thoughts, feelings or behaviour.

What issues can hypnotherapy and coaching help with?

There are many areas where hypnotherapy and coaching can be successfully used to help you.

Here is a list of common areas; abuse, addictions, allergies, anger, anxiety, blushing, burnout, comfort eating, confidence, depression, eating disorders, exam nerves, fears, friendships, goals and planning, grief, habits, health, insomnia, irritable bowel syndrome, learning, loneliness, loss, making decisions, memory, nail-biting, overwhelm, pain relief, panic attacks, performance anxiety, phobias, post-traumatic stress disorder, public speaking, purpose and identity, relationships, resilience, self-esteem, sexual problems, sleep, sports improvement, smoking, stress, stammering and stuttering, tinnitus, trichotillomania, vaginismus, and wellness.

What can I expect during a hypnotherapy session?

We’ll start your first session by discussing your goals and any relevant background information. For subsequent sessions, we’ll review how things have been since the last session and set a focus for the session ahead.

I’ll guide you into a state of deep relaxation where we can access your subconscious mind, and use various techniques to address specific areas of focus and facilitate positive change. I’ll help you uncover what is holding you back, discover new options and possibilities, and release old beliefs, emotions and fears. You will be able to make changes from a really calm and grounded perspective, and help you reach your goals in a way that feels do-able for you.

Our sessions are a collaborative process where you’re actively engaged in your own transformation. If you need a more therapeutic-based session, we’ll spend more time in hypnosis exploring your inner world and making new connections. If you need a more practical, coaching-based session, we’ll spend more time using solution focused and goal-setting processes. It’s reactive to whatever you bring to the session, and we adapt to whatever comes up.

What happens during a young person's session?

The structure of the session will depend on the age and needs of the young person.

Younger children tend to be already experiencing the world at a subconscious level. This means that we will do a lot of the work through the use of stories and exploring their imagination.

Older children and teenagers are working more from their conscious mind, and have already started to form their beliefs and identity based on their childhood experiences. This means that the sessions are often more structured and can include time to relax and use hypnotherapy or meditation techniques.

The tools and techniques used with young people include modalities such as Hypnotherapy, Neuro Linguistic Programming, Tapping, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Positive Psychology and Coaching.

Will you make me cluck like a chicken?

If you want to, then I can help you to!!

But seriously, no, I can’t make you do anything you don’t want to do. Hypnotherapy is a safe and natural therapeutic approach. You remain fully in control during the session, and it’s not possible to be made to do anything against your will. There is no brainwashing, no loss of control, and no clucking like a chicken.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies depending on your individual needs and goals.

As a guide, I’d recommend 3 sessions for a single issue. If the issue is more complex or for multiple issues, I’d recommend we have 6 sessions together.

Sessions are usually held either weekly or fortnightly, depending on your goals and how much processing and integration time you’d like between sessions.

In our introductory call, we will work together to create a bespoke plan that suits your timeline and objectives.

Can hypnotherapy be done online?

Yes, absolutely. As well as in-person sessions, I also offer online sessions using Zoom.

Online sessions are great if you are not local, or if you have limitations which means that in-person sessions could be prohibitive.

Many of my clients have used online sessions and have found them just as effective as in-person sessions.

Working Together: 3 Simple Steps

1. Join me for an introductory call

Get in touch with me using the link below. I’d love to hear about what you’d like help with, your goals and aspirations, and any questions you might have.

We can chat via email, phone, Zoom or meet in-person in Cranbrook, Kent.

2. We'll create a personalised plan

We will explore your aims and aspirations for our time together, and get curious about what is currently helping and hindering you.

We’ll create a bespoke plan to act as our focus for our work together. This is less of a linear goal-orientated plan and more of a squiggly plan that works with the ebb and flow of your life.

3. Let's execute the plan together

Together we will change how you think, feel, and behave, and create a new way of showing up in your world.

We’ll discover the root cause/s behind the things that are holding you back and resolve them at the deepest level. You’ll overcome your limiting beliefs, uncover new options, and take steps to help you meet your goals.

Adult Sessions

A 15-minute introductory call is FREE

A three session course is £450

A six session course is £750

Please allow up to 2 hours for your initial session. Subsequent sessions are 75-90 minutes long.

Under 18s Sessions

A 15-minute introductory call is FREE

A three session course is £270

A six session course is £450

Please allow up to an hour for your initial session. Subsequent sessions are 45-60 minutes long. 30 minute sessions are available for younger children.

Location

Sessions can be held in-person in Cranbrook, Kent, or online via Zoom.
Home visits can be accomodated and travel fees will apply.

Number of sessions

Book 3 sessions to focus on one main area in our work together.
Book 6 sessions to for a deep dive into a number of areas, or support you during a period of change.
Single top-up sessions are available if we have already worked together – please get in contact to book.

Payment and Cancellations

To secure your booking, full payment must be made before the session. Payment is by Direct Bank Transfer or Stripe.

If you need to reschedule or cancel as session, please give 48 hours notice and we can reschedule it to another date.
